FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, establish under Food safety and Standard Act, 2006. This authority comes under the ministry of health and welfare. The authority is introduced to improve the hygiene and quality of food. No person shall commence or carry on any food business except under a license with the exception of petty retailer, hawker, itinerant vendor, or temporary stall holder or a small scale or cottage or such other industries relating to food business or tiny food business operator. Therefore, all organized food manufacturing, processing, packaging, or distributing entity is required to obtain a FSSAI license prior to commencement of business.
FSSAI registration is given on the basis of premise and on the basis of entity. Therefore, each premise of an entity need to obtain license. For ex- A person has a 2 hotel in Delhi, one is Connaught Place and other one is in Kailash Colony, then such person need to obtain 2 FSSAI license. FSSAI license are generally valid for one or two year & can be renewed.
